Time travel is not impossible

Tuesday, October 2, 2012 @ 09:10 PM
Dr Ioannis Syrigos

Even though in the minds of most time travel is science fiction, it turns out that jumps through time are possible – at least according to the laws of physics.

In a recent interview for the movie Looper, Dr Edward Farhi, director of the Center for Theoretical Physics at MIT says ‘There is no question that you can skip into the future’.

However although moving forward in time doesn’t look impossible, travelling in the past is much more problematic. One of the main issues with travelling in the past is the ‘grandfather’ paradox, which is the idea that you might unwittingly do something that causes you to never exist in the first place – and of course you do not want something like this to happen… But even for that there is a theory that avoids the grandfather paradox.

Of course conspiracy (unproven) theories say that time travel is possible and is already been used …

We know that the roots of time travel stem from the theory of relativity of Einstein, which shows how the passage of time is relative depending on the speed you are traveling. The faster you go the more time seems to slow down.
